India Unlikely to Travel to Pakistan for Champions Trophy, Seeks Neutral Venue

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has reportedly informed the International Cricket Council (ICC) that the Indian team will not be travelling to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy, scheduled to be held in February-March 2025. Instead, the BCCI is expected to request the ICC to host India’s matches at a neutral venue, such as Sri Lanka or Dubai.

The decision comes amidst the ongoing political tension between India and Pakistan, with the BCCI citing security concerns as the primary reason for its stance. This will be the second consecutive ICC tournament where India will not be playing in Pakistan, with the 2023 Asia Cup also being held at a neutral venue in Sri Lanka.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had previously proposed hosting all of India’s matches in Lahore, aiming to minimize the Indian team’s travel within the country. However, the BCCI has remained firm in its decision to avoid travelling to Pakistan.

The ICC is now faced with the challenge of rescheduling the tournament to accommodate India’s request for a neutral venue. Finding a suitable location with the necessary infrastructure and availability during the proposed dates will be a complex task.

This development is likely to spark further debate and discussions around the future of India-Pakistan cricket matches. It remains to be seen how the ICC will address this issue and ensure the smooth conduct of the Champions Trophy.
